On the Road to Albuquerque

Moriarty

With our group driving nice clean motorhomes, we took off to find a place to stop for the night. I thought of a casino that I thought was east of Albuquerque where we could spend the night while having fun. Unfortunately, my memory of the location of the casino was faulty. We finally found that the casino was actually west of Albuquerque, so we had a meeting on the CB radio as we drove east on I-40. It was decided to stop at a campground near Moriarty, New Mexico.

We made it to Moriarty for the night at another campground of low quality. Our arrival was early enough that I was able to take a walk around the campground. The Moriarty campground is an old, somewhat rundown place. Several of the picnic tables were broken down. Tina sat on the bench of such a table with Mickey on the tabletop. I thought it would make a fun picture. When I snapped the picture Tina said to be sure to tell people that the picnic table was broken before she sat on it.

Several tables were in need of repair

There was a small compound of farm animals next to the camping area. There were chickens, ducks goats, two potbelly pigs and a pair of domesticated wild turkeys. I know that last phrase sounds contradictory, but it was the best way I could describe the turkeys. The male strutted around with his tail feathers fanned out every time I saw it.

This guy spent a lot of time struttin' his stuff

A glass bottle wall

The house of the campground owner had a room addition that was built mostly of glass bottles. Near the bottle room was a big bed of flowers. Also, not far from the animal impound was an honest-to-goodness flowerbed. You will know what I mean when you look at the photo.

A genuine flower bed

Tom planned to do his usually cooking outdoors. When he opened the storage-bay door to get his barbecue grill, out flew a small squadron of very confused and disoriented files. The day before, the flies were living in the Oklahoma Panhandle, now they were new residents of the wide-open spaces of New Mexico. At least Tom would not be transporting the buzzing critters any further.

This photo pretty much describes this place

We all had our evening meals in our respective rigs. Then we were treated to a nice sunset. Shortly after the sky darkened, a card game broke out in Kevin and Tina's motorhome. The TV reception coming from Albuquerque was very good making it possible for me to watch the movie Men in Black while the card game raged on.

This would be the end of this short trip and the beginning point for our next adventure.
