Our Trip to Wichita, Kansas
Thanksgiving 1997

Friday, 11-21-97

We woke to a bright and sun shiny day. We started off with a simple breakfast in the motorhome and we were on the road by 9:00AM. We made a stop at the local branch of our bank to stock up on cash before leaving California. The motorhome was then pointed toward Arizona and we were on our way.

The drive today was one of the easiest we have experienced along this route. The weather was mostly sunny all day with only a few thin high clouds. The only snow we saw was around Flagstaff, Arizona and we saw only an inch or less located in the shadows. The temperatures were mostly in the high 60s and low 70s. It has been shirtsleeve weather all day.

As we drove across the desert, I saw the sunset in my rearview mirror before we reached New Mexico. This time of year we normally have to stop, for the night, shortly after sunset because the roads tend to freeze over. We usually find ourselves staying at the KOA campground in Gallup, New Mexico. But this year was different, because of the clear weather and warm temperatures; we were able to spend the night in the KOA campground in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
