Friday 9-11

Our trip started without any problems, as we drove over to Tom and Nora’s house to pick up a boat that we were to tow to Oregon. The traffic was a bit heavy because we got on the road at the end of the morning rush hour. Fortunately because it was the end of the commute time, we experienced only a couple of "Slowdowns." Just before getting to Tom and Nora’s house, I stopped at a trailer rental store to buy a connector so I could make an adapter to connect the boat-trailer lights to our motorhome.

We arrived at Tom and Nora’s place shortly before 10 o’clock. I backed our motorhome down the driveway to the boat trailer. This was the first time I had seen the boat and trailer. It was an open aluminum boat with a 15 horsepower outboard engine. The boat had a green fitted cover. It didn’t take very long to splice my new connector to the one Tom had for the boat trailer.

Things were going together too easily, so trouble finally gave us a visit. Kay turned on the motorhome lights to test the trailer lights and a fuse blew. Because the trailer lights worked properly with Tom’s truck, I thought there might be a problem with the wiring of our motorhome, so I checked out its wiring. I found an error in the trailer connector wiring which I was able to correct with the adapter. So, with a new fuse and a modified adapter, the trailer lights checked out okay. We were on the road about an hour later than we had planned.

Our first stop on the way to Oregon was at the Campers Inn RV Campground in Dunnigan, California to spend the weekend with the Venture Outers RV Club. Our route to the campground was via Interstate Highway 580 to Interstate 5, which took us through Stockton and Sacramento. While on I-5 going through Stockton, Tom reminded me that the waterway below was the one we were on when we took a cruise in his boat on the Fourth of July weekend this year.

We arrived at the campground at about 2PM. Our campsite was a pull-through type, which was nice with the boat behind our motorhome. Several of the RV club members were already at the campground. It was nice so see everybody; we did not go to the outing last month.

We will continue on our trek to Oregon on Sunday. We will be traveling with Tom and Nora, Wally and Cathie, as well as Harry and Shirley.
